About the Maker
From a garage in Karaj
to a workshop in the USA.
It started in a garage in Karaj, Iran — a kid with clay, time, and a lot of curiosity. I didn't have a name for it then. I just knew that turning raw material into something real felt right.
I went on to earn a Master's in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's in Systems Engineering in Iran. The mechanical side taught me how individual things are built — materials, tolerances, forces. The systems side taught me how everything connects — how a design decision in one place ripples through the whole. Together they shaped how I approach every project: think it through completely before picking up a tool.
In 2001 I learned SolidWorks, and the loop clicked into place — design digitally, refine virtually, then make it real. I was taking files to machine shops before most people had heard of 3D printing. After moving to the United States, I worked in manufacturing where prototyping was part of the job. That's where I got serious hands-on time with 3D printers around 2012, watching a design go from screen to solid object in hours.
In 2016 I bought my first home, picked up a table saw and a miter saw, and discovered woodworking. The engineer in me took to it immediately — precise cuts, considered joinery, materials that behave according to rules you can learn. And when I started designing wood pieces in Fusion 360 the same way I designed 3D prints, both crafts got better. The software keeps everything precise and intentional. The hands keep it real.
That's what Amir Makes is: work that looks handmade because it is, and fits perfectly because it was engineered to. Cedar planters, hardwood furniture, 3D-printed accessories, laser-engraved gifts — custom pieces for neighbors, friends, and realtors who want something built with care and built to last.
Have something in mind? I'd love to hear it.
